STUFF

Why is it that we always have so much stuff. It's not stuff that we really NEED. in fact, so many books, magazine articles, etc, that i've seen and read say that if you havent' used it in 4 years, you don't need it. And then one I saw said, box it up, put a date on it. next time you go to do spring cleaning, if it has been at least one year from the date on the box, you get rid of it, without looking. I know, I know, that seems a bit extreme, but really now. if you didn't even open it, so you don't even know what's in that box, well, do you really need it. Of course if it's important papers, like tax stuff, you should simply label it so, and be done with it. But i'm seriously considereing doing all of that, because I am so tired of all our stuff. we have WAY too much of it, and no where to put it, since we have now moved from a house that was 1490 sq. ft to one that is 940 sq. feet. Most of that space was where our baby grand went, that we now won't have, but there was also 2 extra closets that i no longer have, plus 4 extra walls of space to put furniture, like book cases (i have about 3 LARGE boxes of books, with no where to put them). and yet, I jsut can't seem to bring myself to get rid of some of this stuff. I ask the questions: Am I going to need this in the future? Are my kids going to need it in the future? are their kids going to need it in the future? if the answer is NO to all of these, I SHOULD get rid of it, but for some reason, there are boxes upon boxes, upon boxes that i can't seem to get rid of! I definitely do not want MORE stuff.

I HEAR ya! I empathize. I sympathize. I wish I had advice on how to get rid of stuff for you.

Richard and I just "celebrated" our 30 years of 'togetherness' and we have never been able to reduce the amount of STUFF we have - the children have had stuff set aside by me and we, as a family, have accumulated STUFF that shold be gone through and eliminated but it never seems to really happen - much to my dismay - so not to make you feel worse, but it doesn't seem to be an easy matter to handle but.... if you should come across a nifty solution please share!
